Malika - restaurant in Gdynia

Last weekend I was in Malika restaurant with my husband. It’s situated on the most popular street in Gdynia: Swietojanska Street. The menu include the dishes from colonial French South Africa like tagine, hummus and couscous. I wanted to taste something new and find a new place where we can repose. The service was very good. We didn’t know what we want to eat and the waitress told us about dishes and recommended her favourites. While we were waiting for our dishes I drunk Traditional Berber Tea for the first time in my life. It’s very sweet mint infusion – and I really like it!
Then we started to eat: special crispy pastry chicken pie (as the warm appetizer), beef cheeks tagine with plums and chopped mutton meet skewers (as the main course). The last one was the dessert – Kadayif cake with dates, fig sauce and gingerbread ice-cream. Everything was delicious!!!! I hope we will back there. If you will be in Gdynia, try to find Malika restaurant. You wouldn’t be disappointed!

How to make a perfect Pavlova?

I wanted to prepare something special for my husband’s b-day. Without any idea in my head it’s very difficult to find some delicious dessert that my partner will love. If you also need some advice, because somebody’s b-day is coming, I propose you to bake Pavlova.

Pavlova? What's that?
It’s a kind of meringue with crunchy crust, centre like marshmallow and with whipped cream and fruits on the top. Of course, you can use different types of fruits like berries, passion fruits, cherries etc.
This popular dessert you can prepare without following a tired recipe but remember about this rules:
  • The egg whites are at room temperature.
  • The egg whites are free of egg shells.
Let's start!!!
Ingredients for the meringue:
  • 6 egg whites at a room temperature
  • 350g sugar for baking
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of corn starch
  • Pinch of salt
Chose a flat metal plate and put one piece of baking paper on it. Then draw a circle with a diameter 22 cm.
Preheat the oven until 180˚C.
In a metal bowl, beat the egg whites with pinch of salt. Use a clean electric mixer. Beat until the whites form soft peaks. Add sugar, spoon after spoon. Your whites must form shiny foam. Add lemon juice and corn starch, mix everything.
Put the mass on the circle on the baking paper. Use a tablespoon to aligned the sides of meringue. Put into the oven (remember about preheating!). Wait 5 minutes and reduce the temperature to 140˚C and bake for 90 minutes. Then turn off the oven and leave the meringue to cool until next day.
When your meringue is ready you can put a whipped cream and cherry confit on it. Garnish with chocolate tubes.
Enjoy!!

I used the recipe that you will find in: mojewypieki.com.pl
